It was another good week of fishing, despite the recent cold front earlier in the week.
The bass bite still good on reaction baits early, jigs, and drop shot getting bit later in the
day. There were several big blue catfish checked in at the marina, the largest tipped
the scales at 14.5Ibs. Cut mackerel, and packaged doughbaits were the hot baits for
the kitties. Panfish still showing around fishing docks, and rock piles all over the lake.
Mini jigs tipped with a mealworm accounted for many crappie, as well as a huge 2.5
bluegill. Shad still around docks early for anyone wanting to dip the baitfish.

Crappie: Fair

Santa Margarita LakeShad are still all over the banks in the early morning, as are the lakes gamefish. Spinnerbaits, traps, squarebills, and small swimbaits have been fooling bass up to 7.5 lbs. Santa Margarita LakeThe lake's shad population is up all over the lake, driving a hot bass bite. It was all reaction this week, with the largies schooling up and chasing bait on secondary, and main lake points. Most fish are in the 2 to 3 lb range, with occasional 5's and 6's in the mix.
