LAKE CONDITIONS: Lake Camanche's current elevation is 202.92 feet above sea level, a drop of .28 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 225c.f.s. No water is expected this week from Lake Pardee so Camanche should drop slightly.??The surface water temp. at North Harbor remains at 61 degrees.
TROUT: There were very few reports from anglers at either North Shore or South Shore marinas this week. We do encourage all anglers to report their comments, stories, or concerns to either North or South marinas or gates. In general, the South Shore Pond has seen the hottest action in the last few weeks, with trout at 15, 13, 10, 9, and 7 pounds all being caught in the last couple of weeks. The best baits include Power Bait (chartreuse, or rainbow), Power Eggs (white, yellow or??chartreuse), Power Bait and nightcrawler combinations, Magic Bullet lures, Kastmaster lures, or Rapala lures. Float tubers have been having luck with dry flies and small lures.
The fishing pressure at North Shore Day Use Point has been light, but a few reports of limits of trout have come in the last week. Anglers getting out early in the morning have been doing best, and Power Bait or nightcrawler combinations have??been the bait mentioned most often. Kastmaster lures in silver/blue or trout pattern are also a good choice for casting and covering a lot of water.
Local contractor Bill Sullivan caught the big trout of the week, at a whopping 10.22 pounds. He and his wife were out near the dam on Friday, just breaking in a new motor for his fishing boat, when his rod bent over double with the huge trout. Bill had been trolling near the surface with a small Midge Wobbler lure, and he said the hook was almost straightened out by the fight of the large trout.
As a Thanksgiving bonus, this week's trout plant will be increased to 1,800 pounds of Mt. Lassen hatchery trout; with 900??pounds being planted to the South Shore Pond, and another 900 pounds being planted at South Shore launch ramp.
BASS: One bass angler reported catching and releasing about 10 bass, up to 3 ?? pounds, while drop shotting with Robo Worms in??Aarons Magic pattern. He was fishing up river, above the highway bridge, on the rocky points outside Oregon Gulch; and also around the big rocks underwater at Arkansas Bend. He said fish were between 10-15 feet deep, and all of his fish were caught before 1 p.m.
Bill Sullivan reported catching "lots" of bass up to 3 pounds last week while targeting balls of shad minnows around the lake. When he would find the balls of bait, he would start drop shotting worms or spoons down through the bait balls. He started catching fish outside North Shore harbor in the trees sticking up on the north east side of the harbor, and then moved to the Causeway and Camper's Cove area. He fished the creek channel in that area, and said fish were down 35-45 feet deep, and hitting on anything resembling a shad minnow. He then moved to the underwater humps east of Little Hat Island, and found more fish from 35-45 feet deep.
