LAKE CONDITIONS:Lake Camanche's current elevation is 203.44 feet above sea level, a rise of .48 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 225c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina has cooled to 56 degrees.??The surface water temp. at North Harbor remains at 61 degrees.
TROUT: With the surface water temperature down to 56 degrees, trout trollers will start finding fish right on, or very close to the surface. Some of the favorite top lining lures at Lake Camanche are Rapala lures in Fire Tiger, gold/black, or silver/black; Needlefish in Cop Car, Fire Tiger, or red/gold; Ex-Cel lures in silver/blue or silver/red; or orange, brown, or watermelon grubs. Sep's dodgers with a nightcrawler are also a proven winner.
Steve Martinez and Andy Crawford caught a beautiful limit of trout, with fish up to 5.56 pounds, while trolling in the main lake. They were trolling near Hat Island with a dodger/nightcrawler combination when they caught their big fish, and also caught fish on Rapala lures in Fire Tiger, and gold/black. Few reports from the South Shore Pond this week, but the same patterns and baits usually apply there. Power Bait in chartreuse, rainbow, or sherbet; Power Eggs in white, yellow, or chartreuse; nightcrawler/marshmallow combinations or nightcrawler/Power Bait combinations are always good choices. Casting lures like Magic Bullets, Kastmasters, or Cripp Lures are great from shore, and the float tubers love to mix it up with dry flies, or Power worms, or small spinners like Panther Martins.
We had a couple of reports of limits of trout at the North Shore Day Use Point this week. Shore anglers starting early in the morning seem to have the best luck, and Power Bait, Power Eggs, and nightcrawler combinations are some of the favorite baits. Kastmasters in silver/blue and Magic Bullets in sliver/blue, or silver/red are among the favorite lures to use there.
Lake Pardee had been releasing water into Camanche the past few weeks, and that cold water inflow has been drawing some nice trout upriver. Troll with Rapalas, Needlefish, or grubs from the highway bridge up to Arkansas Bend, or drift Power Bait, Power Eggs, or nightcrawlers in those same areas.
This week's trout plant of 1,200 pounds of beautiful Mt. Lassen hatchery fish will be at South Shore, and will be split between the South Shore Pond (600 pounds) and South Shore launch ramp (600 pounds).
BASS: Bass are a little less active than they have been in the last few weeks due to the cold weather. Dikes 1 and 2, and the areas east of Little Hat Island have been productive for anglers drop shotting with Robo Worms in Aaron's Magic color. Bass are holding down from 25-40 feet deep, on the ledges that drop off to deeper water.
