TROUT: Trout fishing at the South Shore Pond was absolutely fantastic for many anglers this week. Camanche regular Floyd Reeves, from Lodi, caught a mammoth 15.1 pound rainbow trout while fishing from shore at The Pond. He was using a gold Magic Bullet lure, (produced by Camanche resident Dick Thomas), and caught his big fish in 10-15 feet of water. Magic Bullet lures are sold by both North Shore and South Shore marinas.

Camanche regular Hajime Kanzaki, from Castro Valley, caught another huge trout at the South Shore Pond last Monday. Haj was fishing from his float tube around 1 p.m., when he hooked into a 13.3 pound rainbow near the docks on the East side of the Pond. He was only about 10 feet from the shore when he hooked this massive trout on a home made orange plastic worm. The fish was so large that Haj could not get it in his net. After 3 attempts to net the fish, he got help??from his friend on shore, Floyd Reeves (who caught the 15.1 pound trout later in the week)

Another huge trout was caught at The Pond last Sunday. 12 year old Kevin Cornwell, from Sacramento, was fishing at The??Pond with his family when he hooked into a 9.28 pound trout while fishing with a dry fly. He was fishing from shore with a black/metallic green fly, when this hungry rainbow grabbed his fly and gave young Kevin a fight he will always remember. He and his family brought the fish back to North Shore marina to be weighed and photographed. Great job Kevin!

We had few reports from trollers in the main lake this week, but trout are still down 25-30 feet deep during the day, and will strike at Rapalas, Needlefish, dodger/crawler combinations, R-lures, and Ex-Cels. We have had many reports of bass being caught by the trout trollers also. Bass are very aggressive in the fall, and will bite on many lures if you find the right depth.

This week's trout plant of 1,200 pounds will be split between the South Shore Pond (600 pounds), and North Shore marina (600 pounds).

BASS: We would like to thank the Sacramento Bass Trackers for holding their club meet here at Lake Camanche on Saturday. They had 9 boats go out, and we congratulate the team of Mary Palmer and John Evans for their winning weight of 9.4 pounds for the 4 fish that they caught. We also congratulate Lawrence Kereszt for his big fish of 3.9 pounds. The baits most often mentioned were rip baits, jigs, plastic worms, and crankbaits.

Camanche resident Angelo Alorro had a fine day bass fishing last Wednesday. He caught a limit of bass, up to 2 ?? pounds, using curly tailed worms in green color in the morning; and a lipless silver/blue crankbait later in the day. He was fishing near the rocks upriver, in less than 10 feet early in the day, and 10-20 feet later in the day.
