LAKE CONDITIONS: Lake Camanche's current elevation is 204 feet above sea level, a drop of .16 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 321 c.f.s. Lake Pardee will be letting water out of it's dam this week, and into Lake Camanche, so our water level here will stay steady, or will drop a small amount. The surface water temperature at the marina is 69 degrees.

TROUT: We will start up with our weekly trout plants the week of October 8th. The first week's plant will be 1,200 pounds of trout at North Shore launch ramp, 1,200 pounds of trout at South Shore launch ramp, and 1,200 pounds of trout at the South Shore Pond. All of our trout come from Mt. Lassen trout hatchery, and all of our plants feature trout weighing one pound or larger.

There were no reports from trout anglers this week, but with the cooler weather and fewer recreational boaters at Camanche, look for trollers to start catching trout near the dam and Hat Island. Trolling along the front of the buoy line at the dam is a great area to fish. Fish are holding down about 30-35 feet deep, and can be caught using Needlefish, Rapala lures in silver/black, gold/black; or R-Lures and Ex-Cel lures in silver/blue, red/blue, or red/gold.

Lake Pardee has been releasing water into Lake Camanche during the week, and this cold water inflow has been drawing some nice trout up the river. Drift or troll with nightcrawlers, lures, or Power Bait in the area of Arkansas Bend down to the highway bridge. Fish are holding down about 25 - 30 feet deep.

E.B.M.U.D. has announced that the Hypolimnetic Oxygen System has now been turned on at the dam. This system (also known as the Speece Cone) adds oxygen to the water to raise the oxygen rate in Camanche in late summer. This raised oxygen level draws fish of all species to the area of the dam, making the dam and the buoy line a great area to fish.

BASS: Lake Pardee has been releasing water into Lake Camanche during the week, and this cold water inflow has been drawing some nice trout up the river. Drift or troll with nightcrawlers, lures, or Power Bait in the area of Arkansas Bend down to the highway bridge. Fish are holding down about 25 - 30 feet deep.

The top water bite has still been good for anglers getting on the water early, or late in the day. Fish are shallow at that time, and grassy shorelines or rocky areas are often holding fish. There is nothing like seeing a bass explode on your lure right on the surface. Surface plugs or top water poppers are a great bait for that time of day.

CATFISH: A few reports of catfish being caught from the shoreline came from campers at North Shore this week. Catfish were caught in Blue Oaks campground, in rocky shoreline areas, on mackerel and nightcrawlers. One camper caught 2 catfish, up to 4 pounds, in about 15 feet of water.
