TROUT: We will start up with our weekly trout plants within the next few weeks, as soon as the water temperature drops and stays below 70 degrees. The water temperature is currently at 71 degrees. When trout plants start, we will plant trout every week until next May, or whenever the water temperature rises above 70 degrees. We alternate the fish plants between North Shore and South Shore; one week all the fish get planted at North Shore launch ramp, the following week the plants are at South Shore with one half the fish going into the Trout Pond, and the other half of the fish going into Camanche at South Shore launch ramp.

There were no reports from trout anglers this week, but with the cooler weather and fewer recreational boaters at Camanche, look for trollers to start catching trout near the dam and Hat Island. Trolling along the front of the buoy line at the dam is a great area to fish. Fish are holding down about 30-35 feet deep, and can be caught using Needlefish, Rapala lures in silver/black, gold/black; or R-Lures and Ex-Cel lures in silver/blue, red/blue, or red/gold.

E.B.M.U.D. has announced that the Hypolimnetic Oxygen System has now been turned on at the dam. This system (also known as the Speece Cone) adds oxygen to the water to raise the oxygen rate in Camanche in late summer. This raised oxygen level draws fish of all species to the area of the dam, making the dam and the buoy line a great area to fish.

BASS: Bass fishing has been very good for many anglers this week. Bass Pro Dave Gorden, from Elk Grove, and his buddy caught and released 25-30 spotted bass last Wednesday. They were fishing upriver, on underwater breaks and drop-offs, and had fish on all day long. Their fish came mostly between 15-30 feet deep, and were caught on crankbaits early in the day and on Robo Worms in Aaron's Magic color (purple/black) in 7 inch for the rest of the day. They fished the worms drop shot, and Texas rigged, and had many fish in the 2-2 ?? pound range.

Another angler from Fremont reported catching his limit of bass this week, while fishing the rocky areas of Dikes 1 and 2. He was using plastic worms in purple, green, and brown; and also had good luck with Baby Brush Hogs in green pumpkin. His fish were shallow early in the morning, and went to about 20 feet during the day.

CATFISH: Camanche regular Bruce Jennings, from Daly City, caught 5 nice catfish on Thursday. All of his fish were in the 4-5 pound range, and were caught upriver in rocky areas in about 15-20 feet of water. He was using mackerel for bait, and all of his fish came during the daytime.
