The Shaver Lake trophy trout continue to hide in the lake with a few getting caught. But the 13 to 15 inch trout fishing continues to be good. Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing Charters has been fishing for the most part of three weeks with clients with most scoring multiple limits. "I am seeing other boats catching fish also, which is a good sign that the bite is still on", says Nichols. Nichols is still fishing the island, Black Rock and Eagle Point with a mid morning troll near Stevenson Creek that has been producing 15 to 24 fish each trip. Trout Busters, tipped with crawlers, behind Mountain Flashers at 23 feet deep and trout busters behind Captain Jack's Shaver Lake or C.J. Dodgers, on the down riggers, has been the answer for Nichols. The early morning bite is still best at 6 am or earlier. Other good lures have been Rapala's, Thomas Buoyant's and small Flat Fish. Last weeks plant replenished the bite well. "The quality of this past plant has been good, with 14-15 inch heavy fighting fish", Nichols said.

Bank fishermen are hit or miss from the shore with Power bait and night crawlers. A few boat anglers have reported catching some small, small mouth bass in Stevenson Creek on crickets. The surface water temperature is at 71 degrees causing the trout to go into the thermocline area of 23 to 40 feet deep for trollers. The Shaver Lake Trophy Trout Project's 2nd Annual Sportsmen's Dinner is August 18th, with auctioneers Ray Appleton and Sherriff Margaret Mimms providing some excellent items. All proceeds go toward the 2014 purchase of trophy trout, which the SLTTP says is about 3,500.
