Fishing continues to be hot at Shaver Lake. Most troller's are limiting with some catching multiple limits. "Our clients have been catching their limits each trip for almost two months", said guide Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing Charters.

"Depth, tackle and early morning hours need to be considered in having a successful trip". Lance and Scott Carter from Madera, took their dad, long time WON subscriber, Mark Carter, for a belated Fathers Day fishing trip with Nichols. The trio caught 24 trout to 15 inches keeping 3 limits, all before 930 am. Nichols fishes the island to Black Rock using Trout Buster spinners behind weighted Mountain Flashers on the side poles at 23 feet and Trout Busters on the downriggers at 35 to 40 feet deep. "The fish are much deeper now with the 71 degree surface water temperature", added Nichols. The big fish on Nichols boat this past week was a 7 pound bow caught by Stan Jenanyan of Fresno. Jenanyan and his son Scott were fishing with Nichols and hung the big fish near the island on a Trout Buster at 23 feet deep. Jenanyan released the monster from the net but he and Scott kept 2 limits of trout to 16 inches.

For bankies, it is fair fishing, with some limits being taken. Power Bait, crawlers and Gulp! have been the choice of bank fishermen around roads 1 and 2, the Point and near Edison Campground.

The lake is at 65% capacity. A trout plant scheduled for the last week in July will increase the chance of catching of trout The Shaver Lake trophy Trout project announced that it will plant about 3,500 trophy trout to 6 pounds in the Spring of 2013. 80,000 kokanee fingerling were planted last month.
