The Lake Camanche Fishing Report - March 31, 2008
LAKE CONDITIONS
Lake Camanche's current elevation is 203.48 feet above sea level, a rise of .88 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 225c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina has risen to 58 degrees.
ATTENTION ALL BOATERS
Due to the growing presence of the invasive Zebra and Quagga mussel in California, we will be conducting mandatory boater interviews and, in some cases, vessel inspections prior to entry. In order to speed up this process, we ask that your vessel's water reservoirs (live wells and bilges) be dry and that the boat hull be clean. We do not anticipate that these procedures will take more than five minutes per vessel but we do strongly encourage you to arrive early to make sure you get on the water as early as possible. Please note: EBMUD has advised Lake Camanche that vessels from Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, Southern California, and outside of California will not be allowed on Lake Camanche.
TROUT
The trout bite continues to be a mixed bag for trollers, with warmer waters and bright sunny days this last week. Tom Fugate and George Thieme, from the Bay Area, trolled this week and caught 3 nice trout, 8 bass, and 5 crappie. They were trolling in the main lake with Rapala lures in black/gold.
The big trout of the week was caught by Stanley Steele, from Diamond Springs. He caught 3 trout, 2 bass, and one catfish this week, but his huge trout weighed in at 15 pounds. He was fishing in the upper lake, with his boat beached on shore, using Power Bait.
Another big trout was caught by Angela Webber, from West Point. She came into South Shore marina store this week with no fishing equipment, and was sold a rod/reel combo and some chartreuse Power Bait. She went to the South Shore Pond and within minutes she caught an 11.4 pound rainbow trout.
Mary Keeter, from Folsom, rented a boat this week from South Shore this week and caught a beautiful 7.67 pound trout. She was trolling near the dam with a Rapala lure in silver/black.
Tom Connelly, from Discovery Bay, was fishing in South Shore Pond this week and caught two 9.5 pound trout while fishing with green Power Worms.
This week's trout plant of 1,200 pounds of beautiful Mt. Lassen hatchery trout will be at North Shore launch ramp. As always, 10% of these fish will be trophy trout from 3 pounds on up.
Get ready for our Annual Charity Trout Derby. This year it runs from April 25-May 25, and is being sponsored by Yum's Troutkrilla trout bait. One $5.00 entry ticket qualifies you at each of these 5 lakes. Lake Camanche, Lake Chabot, San Pablo Reservoir, Los Vaqueros Reservoir, and Diamond Valley Lake. All proceeds go to the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans Assoc. of America. Prizes include trips, tackle, cash, tickets to sporting events and much more! Tickets will be available at both marina stores, and both entry gates.
BASS
Bill Sullivan, from Camanche, reported catching more than 10 bass up to 3 ?? pounds. He was fishing in about 30 feet of water with green worms, gitzits, and Robo Worms Aarons Magic. He was drop shotting worms near the South Shore low water launch ramp.
Another angler reported catching limits of bass using Robo Worms in Aaron's Magic color in rocky areas from 10-15 feet deep. He was fishing in the upper lake near the highway bridge.
