LAKE CONDITIONS
Lake Camanche's current elevation is 202.8 feet above sea level, a drop of .2 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 225c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina is 54 degrees.
ATTENTION ALL BOATERS
Due to the growing presence of the invasive Zebra and Quagga mussel in California, we will be conducting mandatory boater interviews and, in some cases, vessel inspections prior to entry. In order to speed up this process, we ask that your vessel's water reservoirs (live wells and bilges) be dry and that the boat hull be clean. We do not anticipate that these procedures will take more than five minutes per vessel but we do strongly encourage you to arrive early to make sure you get on the water as early as possible. Please note: EBMUD has advised Lake Camanche that vessels from Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, Southern California, and outside of California will not be allowed on Lake Camanche.
TROUT
With the bright sunny conditions, and slightly warmer surface temperatures, trout fishermen are finding the trout to be holding down a little deeper. Several anglers have mentioned fish being in the top 20 feet, instead of being right on the surface. Cal Link, from Long Beach, rented a boat from North Shore yesterday and caught a fine limit of trout including a beauty at 8.22 pounds. He was using a count down Rapala lure in fire tiger, and was fishing the main lake in between North Shore Marina and South Shore Marina.
One group of anglers reported catching 7 trout, up to 7 pounds, while trolling with Rapala and Rebel lures near the dam. They said all of their fish came in the top 20 feet of water, and that they had 4 more fish on that they were unable to land.
Chris Polmseth, from Citrus Heights rented a boat last weekend and caught 3 nice trout, up to 3 pounds. He was trolling upriver between the Narrows and the highway bridge, with Rapala lures in gold/black.
Ed Silva, from Wilton caught a 12.15 pound rainbow last week and brought his Dad back this week to introduce Dad to Lake Camanche. They caught a fighting 9 pounder while trolling with a Sling Blade dodger with a nightcrawler. They were trolling in the main lake above the river channel.
A couple of very nice trout came from the North Shore Day Use Point this week. Doug Schnaidt, from Lodi, caught a big fish that pulled his rod right into the water. He used his snap stringer to snag the rod, and was able to retrieve the rod, along with the 12.91 pound monster trout that was still attached to his line. The fish bit on Power Bait. Jessica Romero, from San Francisco was fishing with friends at North Shore Day Use Point when she caught her first fish ever, a beautiful 4 pound trout caught on Power Bait.
This week's trout plant of 1,200 pounds of beautiful Mt. Lassen hatchery trout will be at North Shore launch ramp. As always, 10% of the load will be trophy trout from 3 pounds and up.
BASS
We would like to thank the California Bass Federation for holding their tournament here at Lake Camanche last Sunday. They had 18 boats go out, and 10 of them caught limits of bass. We congratulate Deacon Fernandes for his winning weight of 12.65 pounds, and we also congratulate Darren Saphen for his big fish at 3.72 pounds. The anglers said that most fish were 20-25 feet deep, and that 4"and 6" worms, Brush Hogs in green pumpkin, and jigs in purple or purple/brown were all working. Bass were holding on primary points in rocky areas.
