LAKE CONDITIONS
Lake Camanche's current elevation is 202.44 feet above sea level, a rise of .92 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 225c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina is 48 degrees.
ATTENTION ALL BOATERS
Due to the growing presence of the invasive Zebra and Quagga mussel in California, we will be conducting mandatory boater interviews and, in some cases, vessel inspections prior to entry. In order to speed up this process, we ask that your vessel's water reservoirs (live wells and bilges) be dry and that the boat hull be clean. We do not anticipate that these procedures will take more than five minutes per vessel but we do strongly encourage you to arrive early to make sure you get on the water as early as possible.
TROUT
This was a week in which there were a number of very large trout caught at Lake Camanche. Trollers seemed to have the most success, with the big trout of the week being caught by Bruce Moore, from Eugene, Oregon. He was trolling with a dodger/nightcrawler combination, upriver near the highway bridge,
Dick Bertoncini, from Coloma, rented a boat at North Shore on Friday and caught a couple of big, hungry trout. Bert was trolling near the South Shore when he landed his first fish, a whopper at 7.3 pounds. Then he landed another nice trout at 5.2 pounds. Both fish were caught on Rapala lures, one in Rainbow pattern and the other in Fire Tiger. Both fish were caught top lining on the surface.
Jeff Williams and Walter Headley, from Modesto, rented a boat at North Shore on Saturday and caught 7 fine trout, including an 11.09 pound whopper. They were trolling with a Rapala lure in silver/blue, and caught most of their fish near Hat Island and the dam.
Peter Oltean and Louie Tafoya, from Sacramento area, were trolling on Saturday and caught 9 beautiful trout including one at 10.2 pounds and another about 5 pounds. They were trolling in front of the buoy line at the dam with Rapala lures in silver/black, and said all of their fish came on or near the surface.
William Kudenov and Adam Mattson, from Livermore, rented a boat at North Shore on Saturday and caught 3 trout and 3 bass while trolling with Rapala lures in Fire Tiger color. William caught the big fish, a 9.15 pounder, caught right out in front of the North Shore marina harbor.
This week's plant of 1.200 lbs of beautiful Mt. Lassen hatchery trout will be split between the South Shore Pond (800 pounds) and South Shore launch ramp (400 pounds).be split between the South Shore Pond (800 pounds) and South Shore launch ramp (400 pounds).
BASS
There were no reports from bass anglers this week, but fish are mostly between 15-30 feet deep, and baits should be worked slowly. Jigs in brown, black, or crawdad color, drop shot worms in green pumpkin, purple or brown, or lizards and leeches in green pumpkin or watermelon are all good choices. The rocky faces of Dikes 1 & 2, rocky points and structure, and the rock walls upriver are all good locations to start.
