The Lake Camanche Fishing Report - February 25, 2008
LAKE CONDITIONS
Lake Camanche's current elevation is 202.72 feet above sea level, a rise of .08 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 225c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina is 49 degrees.
ATTENTION ALL BOATERS
Due to the growing presence of the invasive Zebra and Quagga mussel in California, we will be conducting mandatory boater interviews and, in some cases, vessel inspections prior to entry. In order to speed up this process, we ask that your vessel's water reservoirs (live wells and bilges) be dry and that the boat hull be clean. We do not anticipate that these procedures will take more than five minutes per vessel but we do strongly encourage you to arrive early to make sure you get on the water as early as possible.
TROUT
This was a week in which there were some very large trout weighed in at Lake Camanche, and for others is was a tough bite for the elusive rainbows. The big fish reported from the main lake was caught on Saturday by John Young, from Eldorado. He caught a limit of trout while trolling in the Narrows and upriver, and his big whopper weighed in at 14 pounds. He also had a 4 pounder, and most of his fish were caught top lining with a Rapala lure in gold/black.
Robbie Dunham, from Galt, caught a limit of trout in the main lake while trolling a Rapala in the brown trout pattern. His big fish weighed in at 13.10 pounds, and was caught near the Narrows.
Paul Stengle and his buddy caught 8 trout this week while trolling near Hat Island. His big fish weighed in at 6.15 pounds, and all of his fish were caught on Needlefish in Cop Car, or orange colors.
April Ledford, from Sunnyvale, was fishing with a friend on Monday and they caught a limit of trout fishing in the main lake. Her big fish was 7 pounds, and all of their fish were caught on a Rapala lure in black/silver.
The biggest fish reported for the week came from the South Shore Pond, and was caught by Jim Murray, from Camanche. He has an outstanding day at the Pond, and caught his limit of trout with the big fish at 14.42 pounds, another one weighed 11.53 pounds, and another at 8.55 pounds. He caught all of his fish on Power Worms in either green or orange.
Young Allan Lee Veto caught a very nice trout from shore at North Shore this week. He landed a beautiful 8.12 lunker while fishing with green Power Bait.
This week's plant of 1.200 lbs of beautiful Mt. Lassen hatchery trout will be at South Shore, and will be split between the South Shore Pond (600 pounds) and South Shore launch ramp (600 pounds).
BASS
There were no reports from bass anglers this week, but bass continue to hold in the riprap areas of the dikes, the dam, and the Causeway cove. The rocky points near the Narrows and Lancha Plana, as well as around the highway bridge are also solid areas to cover. Dark colored jigs, worms or leeches in smoke or green, and Brush Hogs in green pumpkin or watermelon are good baits to start with.
