Bass fishing was very good early in the week, with almost all types of shad imitations getting bit. There were rumors of kmore than one dbl.digit fish being caught, though the marjority of the largies were in the 3-5lb. range. The lakes big catfish also went on the chew, as Jim Tharp of Santa Margarita demonstrated last week. Tharp caught and released a 20lb. giant one day followed by a 13lber the next. Both of the big cats fell for night crawlers. Crappie also showed down in the white oak area on mini jigs tipped with mealworms.

Santa Margarita LakeThe small cold front that came through last week had slowed the action some, but by the end of the week the largies went on the chew. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, square bills, swimjigs, and everything in between all caught fish. The crappie showed for those targeting them on rocky outcroppings throughout the lake. Santa Margarita LakeBass fishing has slowed just a bit from last week, but double digit numbers are still available for those putting in the effort. Jigs, and about any type of shad imitation put fish in the boat. Shore anglers also faired well with the same baits, and techniques.
