Connor Thomas & his family rented the double decker boat on Saturday. When they woke up they had second thoughts about it being a swimming day since it was cloudy and rainy. They turned it into a fishing day instead and Connor surprised everyone with his Big Trout Catch! Using a broken back minnow Connor pulled in a 3 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow Trout. From the shoreline Big Juan & Little Juan teamed up against a hungry 7 lb. 4 oz. Catfish that took their Nightcrawler.
Water sports are still in effect here at Collins Lake until Oct. 15th which is the cutoff for these type of activities. Although the lake is 48 feet down, it does not affect our launching ramp or water sports. There are buoys on the east side to make boaters aware of shallow areas or obstructions. After October 15th the lake is open for fishing only with a 20mph speed limit on the lake.
I spoke with Larry Hemphill Saturday morning as he was leaving and he had caught and released a 3 lb. Bass for his biggest that day. Dave Callison picked up a 4 lb. 4 oz. Bass this week, fishing in his favorite spot near the bridge, using his famous purple worm combo.
All in all it was a good week for fishing thanks to the cooling trend in our weather. The cooler water will bring up the Trout but push down the Bass so be prepared to go deeper for the Bass. Larry said he picked them up in 50 feet of water this week. Starting in October, our camping rates drop drastically and we offer Fishing Package Deals to include a boat for very little.
