Catfish, Catfish, and more Catfish!!! Richard Plise Jr. has made fishing his mission this summer! Again he captured a huge Catfish that weighed in at a whopping 9 pounds. He reeled in his monster Cat in Elmer's Cove and was using worms for bait. Worms also worked for Jamie Frye just off his campsite in the main campground. John Kuntz of Oregon House took home a huge stringer of Catfish-stringer weight totaled 31 pounds. His biggest Cat weighed in at 10 pounds-then 7-1/4, 6-1/4, 5-3/4, & 2-1/4 (all caught on clams).
Jerry Freeman of Live Oak fished in a boat in Elmer's Cove but only fishing in 2 feet of water with Anchovies and netted 2 nice Cats. The Biggest was 6-3/4 pounds and the second was a 5 pounder. Dillon Kennedy fished by the bridge using Nightcrawlers and caught 3 nice Crappie.
Hats off to Jerry of Yuba City who captured the biggest Cat this week, it was a 12 pounder and he actually caught it on the rental dock which is a feat in itself. Generally they wrap themselves around the pilings and get off. Jerry used Anchovies for bait-GREAT JOB!!
There has been multiple "Shad Sightings" so it is confirmed that they are hatching. One guy told me he heard a commotion while sitting in his boat still fishing. When he looked up he saw hundreds of Shad jumping out of the water onto the shore while trying to escape being dinner for a hungry Bass. Another camper said he and his Dad caught and released 15 Bass this week using plastic worms in 10 to 15 feet of water.
