LAKE CONDITIONS: Lake Camanche's current elevation is 207.08 feet above sea level, a drop of .6 feet this week. The lake will drop slowly this week.??There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 342 c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina is 79 degrees. The Sechi reading for water clarity down to 20 feet.
TROUT: Anglers who get out on the lake early or late in the day are finding trout down between 30-45 feet deep. Flasher/nightcrawler combinations are always a good bet, as well as Needlefish, R-Lures, and Ex-Cels in Firetiger, red/gold, and blue/gold. The area from Hat Island to Little Hat Island to the dam is the most typical trolling pattern, as well as along the buoy line in front of the dam.
Trollers and bait drifters working the Narrows report catching trout up to 3 ?? pounds, down about 35 feet deep. The deep river channel offers some cold water for the fish, as well as all the structure that occurs there. Power Bait, Power Eggs, Yum's Troutkrilla, or nightcrawlers are the top picks for drifting bait.
Fishing at Dike 3 continues to be one of the top trout areas at Lake Camanche. That corner of the lake holds lots of big trout, and can be good during the day, as well as the night. Anchor in about 40 feet of water, and work Power Bait, Power Eggs, or nightcrawlers on or near the bottom. The overnighters with fishing lights continue to catch easy limits of trout up to 5-6 pounds there.
BASS: We would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped us with our annual bass plant last week. 2500 bass fingerlings were delivered by Willow Creek Fisheries on Monday at noon, and volunteers took buckets of bass to all corners of the lake and released them in areas with good structure. This is an annual event, and we thank all those who participated, as well as Raley's Supermarket # 438 for supplying food for everyone, and Hydrate2O for supplying water for everyone.
Dan Maboloc, from South San Francisco, reported that he had a very mixed day of fishing last weekend. He had 3 nice bass on his rod that all got into submerged trees and broke him off. Then he landed one nice bass on a drop shot Magic Worm. He also caught 2 nice catfish at 4 pounds each, and another 3 pound trout. The catfish and trout were all caught on mini crawlers, up the river.
CATFISH:Locals Dean Wade and G.B. Richter continue to catch lots of big catfish at Lake Camanche. They went out last Thursday and caught 7 catfish, up to 6 ?? pounds, and also caught 4 catfish last Monday, all in the 4 pound range. They were fishing in the main lake, with mackerel, and all fish were caught in about 20 feet of water.
Chris Giles and his daughter, from Oakland, caught a beautiful 5.6 pound catfish near their camp site in Blue Oaks campground at North Shore. They were using ghost shrimp, and caught the fish on 6 pound test line.
We encourage all anglers to report their stories, comments, or concerns to either North Shore Store, South Shore Store.
