High winds finally subside today. Forecast calls for the wind and rain to give way to sunshine and temperatures in the 70's by Wednesday of next week.
The Lake is presently a foot below spill but still full to the brim. Bank and surface conditions will improve as the wind subsides and clearing skies arrive by mid-week. Recent rains have again muddied the waters and deposited lots of debris which has limited visibility to 6 to 8 feet at best. Water temps are constant, 46 degrees at 20'and 50 degrees at surface as measured in the Marina.
Bank fishermen have been few and far between due to all the wind and rain we experienced last week, they will be returning to the popular spots now that the weather is due to improve. Good areas lately have been opposite the EBMUD boathouse, Launch Ramp, TomSawyerIsland, the banks on either side of the Marina gangway and Rainbow Point. Try silver/blue Kastmasters soon after the plant, a black wooly bugger behind a clear bobber/float and sliding sinker set ups thereafter. The Marina says the chartreuse garlic flavored Power Bait with sparkles is working the best of all the available varieties.
Trollers were kept off the Lake due to high winds and rough seas most of last week. As the conditions improve boaters will resume plying the River Arm from Columbia Gulch to Indian Rock. The Kokanee are congregating very close to the surface in the first 10 ft. At last report the Kokanee were in this area and biting on Apex lures tipped with scented shoe peg corn. Trout are also active in the same region but a bit deeper at 20 feet and they prefer Uncle Larry's lures with worms and or corn. Still no reports of German Browns but they will show up soon, try a mid-size broken back Rapala trout minnow behind a silver/green dodger at 50 feet near the Rock Wall, some beautiful fish come out of there every year.
The Pardee Lake Media Day is scheduled for Saturday April 2, 2011. This event will feature Live Radio broadcasts, tips and technique seminars. There will also be opportunities to meet and greet the pros and see live on the water equipment demonstrations. This event will start at 5am and run through 3pm, see our website for further details.
Lake Pardee Lake Recreation has planted 23,800 lbs in combination with The California Dept of Fish and Game plants of 6,200 lb for a grand total of 30,000 lbs of Rainbow Trout.
