Today I had the pleasure of getting out on Clear Lake with my buddy Doug Bender. We launched out of Redbud Park and made a pretty short run and started fishing some chunk Rock. Doug started off throwing a swimbait and I was throwing a jig. No luck as we started covering water so I switched over to a jerkbait. Still no luck we made a longer run to mid lake and started fishing some water that was a little more protected out of wind so that we could do a little site fishing. Didn’t take long to start seeing some little bucks. We both managed to pick up a fish each. His was caught on a smaller swimbait and mine was caught fishing a dropshot with a Margarita mutilator. After not seeing any big females we decided it was time to make another move. We found some really good clean water but just couldn’t find the fish.
After a mid day break we decided to make a run over into the rattlesnake arm and try to find some frog fish. As we covered a bit of water we did manage to get a blow up on the frog both of us and both missed it. Just continued to cover water looking for good isolated grass in hopes it would be holding fish but nothing. So we moved back up mid lake where I did manage to boat a crappie and another bass on a dropshot. My buddy Doug had a very nice fish take his frog but didn’t set on it in hopes of coming back to spot next day during tournament. All in all it was a fun day on the water but a very tough bite for us. Hope to see this bite fire off soon. Can’t wait to start sticking some topwater fish. Tight lines.
