On March 27th 2022, I took some friends, along with my son to Lake McClure for a fishing trip. The water level was extremely low, and there was a 150 boat tournament launching out of McClure Point Boat Ramp.

After we launched the boat we idled out to the south end of the lake near the dam. Numerous boats were fishing that area, so we continued on into Long Gulch Cove. We started out throwing small swimbaits in 5-15 feet of water. A couple of our friends we brought with us are new to bass fishing so I suggested a cast and reel style presentation would be more applicable.

As we cruised down the bank we began catching fish in pockets. When we caught one fish we usually caught two or three in a specific area. Several of the fish we caught bit our swimbaits on the initial drop following our cast. I was quite pleased with our quality of fish, with the average size being roughly two pounds.

It did not seem to matter the color of the swimbait we were throwing, because we caught fish on every color. White, green pumpkin, chartreuse, purple, and even black were the majority of the colors we were using. Both largemouth bass and spotted bass were the species we were catching, and at the end of the trip we even caught a magnum 2 lb crappie.

All in all it was an excellent day of fishing, and our guests we brought with us had an amazing time enjoying one of our many outdoor activities.
