Lake Berryessa fishing Report

Water temps – 52-58

Water clarity – 1-10ft depending on area

Weather- we fished blue bird sky days, 20mph wind days, scattered cloud cover, And rain

Grind Grind Grind!!!

The lake is fishing very tough right now — As most have seen recent tournament results with mid teen bags to take the win!

Myself, tournament partner and Son spent 7 days on the water the last couple weeks for some events and pre-fishing. For us the bite was very slow, picked up a couple in practice on a crank bait but everything else we caught was on soft plastics. Presentation had to be slower than slow and even dead sticking was producing the most bites. With the spawn just around the corner our main areas of focus were spots just outside of spawning grounds, grass was key as well. The fish did not seem to be grouped up either. When we would get on a spot that had fish that wanted to eat we would get a couple fish right away then that was it.

If heading out my “tips”- cover a lot of water, but fish slow and thorough, we had fish in 1ft and fish in 50ft caught.

I would also like to congratulate my Son Cayden Cross on his victory at both the season opener here on 2/19 and the TOC on 3/21-3/26, Its been great to have him on the boat and competing in tournaments and watch him learn this last year. Anglers press (future pro tour) has a GREAT format for the youth of the sport and a great way to get the kids started into tournament fishing. Be sure to check them out. Hope to see you on the water (with your kids!)
