LAKE CONDITIONS
Lake Camanche's current elevation is 201.82 feet above sea level, a drop of .9 feet this week. There is currently no water flowing into Lake Camanche, and water is flowing out of Lake Camanche at 450c.f.s. The surface water temperature at the marina is 64 degrees.
ATTENTION ALL BOATERS
Due to the growing presence of the invasive Zebra and Quagga mussel in California, we will be conducting mandatory boater interviews and, in some cases, vessel inspections prior to entry. In order to speed up this process, we ask that your vessel's water reservoirs (live wells and bilges) be dry and that the boat hull be clean. We do not anticipate that these procedures will take more than five minutes per vessel but we do strongly encourage you to arrive early to make sure you get on the water as early as possible. Please note: EBMUD has advised Lake Camanche that vessels from Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, Southern California, and outside of California will not be allowed on Lake Camanche.
TROUT
Get ready for our Annual Charity Trout Derby. This year it runs from April 25-May 25, and is being sponsored by Yum's Troutkrilla trout bait. One $5.00 entry ticket qualifies you at each of these 5 lakes: Lake Camanche, Lake Chabot, San Pablo Reservoir, Los Vaqueros Reservoir, and Diamond Valley Lake. All proceeds go to the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America. Prizes include trips, tackle, cash, tickets to sporting events and much more! Tickets will be available at both marina stores, and both entry gates.
The 3 big fish caught in the trout derby at Camanche so far all came from the South Shore Pond. Gary Summers, from Stockton, is first with a big fish at 1.57 pounds, caught on Power Bait. Gary caught 4 fish total. 2nd biggest fish was caught by Larry Summers, from Stockton, and his big fish weighed 1.45 pounds. He also caught his fish on Power Bait, and caught 4 fish total. 3rd biggest fish was caught by Eloisa Alexander, from Manteca. She caught 3 fish, and her biggest was 1.37 pounds, caught on a nightcrawler/marshmallow combination. We encourage all anglers to enter the Trout Derby, and also non-anglers. Anyone is welcome to make a donation to the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America whether they are fishing or not.
There are still some trout being caught near the surface of the lake, but on these hot and sunny days trout are holding down 25-40 feet deep. Mike Kaufman, from Manteca and Mike Frary from Stockton caught 4 nice trout trolling Rapala lures in Fire Tiger on Saturday. They started on the surface, and worked their way down as the day went by.
Jack Vandeford caught the big trout of the week while fishing from shore at North Shore Day Use Point. He was using green Power Bait when he pulled in this beautiful 8 pound rainbow trout.
The biggest trout of the week were caught trolling by Stan Steele. He was using a green/white bass plug down 24 feet deep when he caught a beauty at 10.24 pounds. He also had another trout at 4.75 pounds, and another at 4.25 pounds.
Local Susan Sheehan caught a fine trout on Saturday. She and her husband Mike were anchored in about 60 feet of water and fishing with Power Bait when she landed a very nice 5.15 pound trout. They had 3 fish total for the day.
This week's trout plant of beautiful Mt. Lassen hatchery fish will be at North Shore. As always, 10% of these fish will be trophy trout from 3 pounds on up. We will continue to plant trout until surface water temperatures rise above 70 degrees.
BASS
We would like to thank the Anglers Choice Motherlode Semi-Pro teams for holding their tournament here at Camanche last Sunday. 36 boats went out and 30 five fish limits were caught, with a total of 367 pounds of bass all released alive. We congratulate the team of Matt Overtuff and Waylon Cadwell for winning first place with a total of 14.54 pounds. We also congratulate James Fuller for his big fish at 6.48 pounds. Plastics, jigs, and crankbaits, were all said to be working well.
We would also like to thank the Fairfield-Suisun Bass Reapers club for having a 2 day team event at Camanche last weekend. They had a total of 14 boats go out over the 2 days, and 100 fish caught and released. We congratulate the team of Brian Koelling and Chris Martinez for their winning 10 fish limit of 26.95 pounds, and they also had the big fish at 7.43 pounds. They said that drop shot worms in Keeper #82 (green & brown), Aaron's Magic, and Morning Dawn worked very well for them.
Bass are in pre-spawn or spawn mode, and we strongly encourage catch and release methods during this time of year.
We encourage all anglers to report their stories, comments, or concerns to either North Shore Store, South Shore Store, or to us by email at eporray@camancherecreation.com. Thanks again for choosing Lake Camanche for your recreation destination.
