It's hard to get a reading on the situation at Lewiston Lake and Trinity Lake, too. Things get quiet in the winter, anglers get focused on the steelhead in the rivers and few reports come out of these great trout and smallmouth bass waters. At the moment, according to Steve Gildesgard at Dragonfly Outfitters in Weaverville, we're in a "low pressure" slump.

"It's cold but we haven't had enough rain to cause the tributaries in the lakes to feed in the nutrients that will put the bass - both large and smallmouth in Trinity Lake -- or the trout in Lewiston -- on a tear." Gildesgard is looking forward to what looks like some rain for the Trinities starting December 1st and more on Sunday and Monday the 2nd and 3rd.

"What we need is about three days of hard rain to get things rolling," Gildesgard said. Despite that he also told MyOutdoorBuddy that Lewiston Lake had fished pretty well on some days. "One day some of the guys went up there and caught 34 fish but on the next trip they got nada."
