Aaron Funk of Kamp Klamath near the town of Klamath explains that the fall run King salmon bite at the mouth has fizzled out but everyone is thankful it lasted as long as it did.

"Steelhead time is approaching in December," Funk said, "action is already picking up off the points on the estuary side of Klamath Beach on crawlers, jar baits and small lures."

Willow Creek/Hoopa/Somes Bar -- Other fishing holes worth considering now include the Trinity River, the mid-to-upper Klamath, several lakes around Mt. Shasta, Clear Lake (brimming over with crappies at the moment) and Lake Berryessa.

There have not been any reports out of Lake Siskiyou or McCloud Reservoir recently but I suspect that trollers are doing well at both places on rainbows to 20-inches. The weather is certainly cooperating and when the fish go on the bite here, it is a great place to spend some time.

Weaverville/Clearlake -- My picks for the weeks ahead would again be the Trinity/Klamath Rivers and Clear Lake. There's no question the Trinity is crowded. We have nearly ideal weather and a record run of steelhead so it's well worth your time, especially on week days. If you want to avoid the crowds and want to fly fish from shore or a drift boat just keep on going up Highway 96. It's not going to get much better than it already is from Willow Creek north.
