Don Pedro fishing report for May. Fishing has been up and down this past month. Most of the fish are off beds now and starting to school up on shad. Shad are pushing up shallow in the backs of the creeks to spawn. Look for busting fish early in the morning and hit them with topwater or fluke style baits. There is a limited amount of time before the shad finish and move back into the channel so get out there before the sun comes up. As far as the rest of the day goes it turns into a bit of a grind. Topwaters such as the spook or Ima skimmer have been producing decent fish. Once the topwater bite fades many people have been finding decent luck grinding crank baits and blades across the mud banks in places such as Rogers creek arm. I did find a decent bite flipping brush hogs and Berkley rocket craws in brush against the shore. If you can find fish bunched up you can load the boat fast but for the most part you really have to cover a lot of water. Also there is a really good crappie bite when you find the shad in the creeks. When the morning bass bite fades you can switch to crappie jigs and have a blast. Definately a good bite to take the kids to. Be safe out there and remember to Set The Hook!
