Shaver Lake continues to kick out trophy sized rainbows almost every day. 12 year old Kailee Stock of Clovis caught a beautiful 8.7 pound rainbow this week and weighed it in at Shaver Lake Sports, one of two stores in Shaver that are official weigh stations in the Herb Bauer's/ Shaver Lake season derby. The other being Ken's Market. I think everyone is catching fish. A 10.13 pound rainbow was weighed in earlier this week and leads the derby. Shaver Lake resident and a buddy of mine, Dave Dungy and I fished on his boat this week and caught and released 4 limits of mixed kokanee and trout. The biggest rainbow ,caught by Dungy, went about 4 pounds. Other trollers reported limits and one guy said that he had caught and released a 4 pounder on the same day we fished. The weather has been beautiful in the mid 60's and the lake like a mirror. So, fishing it is and catching it is at Shaver. We used Trout Busters and Koke Busters tipped with crawler and corn behind weighted Mountain Flashers on the side poles. On the down riggers we had an orange Apex behind a Captain Jack's CJ Dodger and a pink Koke Buster behind a Captain Jack's Shaver Lake Dodger. It is unknown what others are using for their success. It was 4 trout to kokanee ratio and the fishing was simply good. Bank fishermen continue to catch a trophy about one a day along with some smaller rainbows. But over all the bite is from a boat Dick Nichols (559) 841-3317; Shaver Lake Marina (559) 841-3324
