Over 150 Bass were caught and released in the past week, by only 4 fishermen in 2 different boats. They are super aggressive but you must have a boat to get to the north end where they are on the bite. Last week Don Pearson & Tim Merrit of Roseville caught & released 42 Bass. Starting in the morning Don said any lure that looks like a crawdad or colored like a crawdad worked great in about 5 feet of water. As the day got warmer they dove to about 20 feet of water and Don & Tim had better luck drop shotting with crawdad colored (brown & orange) jigs. Unable to stay away, Don returned a few days later and hammered over 65 Bass (his biggest 2-1/2 lb.) which proved to be an equal combination of Florida Bass & Spotted Bass. He released them as he caught them only taking a few for himself. Dave Callison & Kevin Donovan had the same great luck in the same area on their trip here this week. They released most of them but had to keep the biggest one which was an even 5 pounds. They use live crawdads and purple worms and fish shallow as well in about 5 to 10 feet of water.

Our surface temperature is 62 degrees which means the lake is "turning over". When the lake turns, the temperature is the same from top to bottom and the thermocline has gone. The thermocline only appears after the lake "warms up" again which won't occur until late spring. With the absence of the thermocline, the trout are now EVERYWHERE and not deep where they hide during the summer when the surface temperature is too high for their survival.

With the lake 52' down, we are just at the end of the main boat launching ramp, but we have an alternate ramp located by the dam which is still very convenient to use. This ramp is usable by 2 wheel drive trucks and motorhomes. There is a courtesy dock at this alternate ramp. Ask for directions when you arrive at the entry station to this alternate ramp. If your motorhome is very large, we will offer free launching assistance if you would prefer.
