Very low flows for opening exist on the McCloud river. Best fishing will be down stream of Ash Camp below Hawkins Creek through Nature Conservancy.
Use small nymphs like size 18 micro mayflies and size 18 red & black copper johns. Size 16 amber princes as well size 16 pheasant tails. Go traditional and go small on nymphs in the morning and throughout the mid-day until things warm up. Look for rising trout in the foam lines and use size 16 Lt Cahill’s with no parachute and Adams size 16 & 18 no parachutes. Think small flies people, flows are slim, but if you like dries then do a stimulator on top with a dropper 4 to 6 feet below dry and high-stick though medium speed water or edges. For the bigger boys dredge. Water temp 52 degrees. www.jacktrout.com, (530) 926-4540, (530) 235-2969
