Expect century mark temperatures for today, Friday and the weekend with some relief starting early next week. Expect some gentle breezes and the possibility of some high clouds. Pardee Lake water level is presently at 87% capacity (within 8 to 10 foot of spill) with ALL launch ramp facilities and Park services available.
I saw a total of two brave souls in the Recreation Area this morning trying to put a few in the box before the heat sends them packing. According to reports it's been quiet all week. Woodpile continues to be the best bet and most productive, cooler temps and deeper water are the primary advantages. Experienced regulars start there early before the temps become oppressive. Power Bait, chartreuse with sparkles, eggs with garlic, orange and pink mouse tails along with night crawlers on a sliding sinker or a half full water bubble all continue to be effective combos thus far for Trout.
Trolling has become tougher since last report, those doing any good at all have done so in the South end and in Twin Coves, Columbia and near Deer Island. Trollers are working harder and putting fewer fish in the box. All Rainbows this week, Kokanee have become very elusive. Fish have descended deeper and are now at the 50 to 100 feet levels where the water is cooler. Tying off in upstream coves and bait fishing for Trout has been much more productive again lately. Trollers are using Hoochies, (green and pink) along with the standard beaded spinners, Uncle Larry's pinkies and white/pink hoochies, all behind medium size silver and gold dodgers. Those Trout caught bait fishing from boats lately have been partial to night crawlers and power bait/eggs.
Not much news on Bass fishing, but I'd still work the coves and rocky points all along the eastern banks and upstream. Red and darker plastic worms swim baits and large night crawlers all working well.
No news about catfish this report so the old info remains unchanged try the warmer cove areas from Mel's all the way down to Rattlesnake and upstream as well. Power bait, night crawlers, stinky chicken livers and ballpark franks are all popular with our whiskered friends.
Lake Level is currently at 87% of capacity and holding. Water temperature is currently 72 degrees at 20 feet and 78 at the surface; clarity is good to 17 feet plus.
Lake Pardee Recreation has planted a total of 22,000 pounds of fish for the season so far.
