Shaver Lake Fish Report for 6-2-2012
10.2 lb. Trophy Rainbow caught at Shaver Lake
Shaver Lake - Shaver Lake, CA (Fresno County)
by Dick Nichols
6-2-2012
Shaver Lake continued to be hit or miss for trollers this week, but bank fishermen and still fishing from boats remained good. Guide Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing Charters said that still fishing from boats in the Eastern part of the lake was good with a few trophy sized trout coming in. Steve Howell from Lakeside, Ca. caught a 9 pound 4 ounce bow still fishing from his boat at Tunnel creek.
Nichols said that the bank fishermen are doing best on Power Bait, night crawlers and Gulp!, from roads 1 and 2, the Point and near Edison campground. A few that have hiked back to the Eastern end of the lake are scoring on better sized fish.
Nichols continues to troll with Trout Busters with a tip of crawler behind a Mountain Flasher at 15 feet deep. His clients have recorded good numbers of fish. The biggest catch on Nichols boat this week was a 10 pound 2 ounce trophy rainbow caught by Leon Jennings of Clovis. Jennings son, Dr. Dave Jennings from Belgium, caught a 5 pound bow on the same trip. They were fishing near Eagle point for both fish. Another troller, Nick Salas, of Paso Robles boated an 11 pound 11 ounce rainbow while trolling on the Eastern side of the lake.
The lake has leveled off for the season at 71% capacity. Nichols feels that the trolling will improve due to the lack of floating insects from the shore when the water was on the rise. The fish he has caught all are packed with insects in their stomach. Water temperature had dropped to 61 degrees this past week from 64 degrees, but following last weeks snow it has regained to a surface 64 degrees.
