Guide Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing Charters at Shaver Lake reported good fishing all week at Shaver Lake. Many trophy size trout were weighed in at the two Shaver Lake Trophy Trout Project official weigh stations, Shaver Lake Sports and Young's Sporting Goods this week. Several 6 to 10 pounders were recorded, but the big fish that is now leading the SLTTP Summer Derby is a monster 15 pound 11 ounce rainbow caught by Torsia Lee from Fresno. Lee was still fishing from his boat at unknown location on the lake with Power Bait. Catchable sized trout were also available to finish limits.

Nichols said that his clients have limited out all week , on five trips, catching 12 trophy sized trout to 6 1/2 pounds. Barbara Lair and Desi Nelson, both of Fresno, celebrated Desi's birthday with a trip with Nichols scoring 2 limits including a 2/3/4 and 5 1/2 pound fish. Jim and Gail Gaede of Fresno also took limits including a 5 1/2 pounder by Gail and a 6 pounder by Jim. They caught and released all but the 6 pounder. Ron Stebles, of Clovis, caught and released several fish to 5 1/2 pounds on his birthday trip. Nichols continues to use Trout Busters with a tip of crawler behind Mountain Flashers at about 12 to 15 feet deep. The best locations have been the island and Black Rock for trollers and roads 1 and 2 for shore fishermen. The shore anglers are using Power bait, Gulp and crawlers.

Heavy boat traffic over the weekend indicates that Shaver Lake is the place to be.
