Weather and conditions remain ideal, high 80's low 90's forecast for this weekend and continuing into next week.
Lake level still remains full to capacity. Good visibility to 15 feet, water temperatures remain constant at 62 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 66 at the surface as recorded in the Marina.
The Kokanee Power tournament held last weekend was very successful. Lots of good size Kokanee caught during the event, some to 17" (see their website for results). The most productive areas have been upriver from Columbia to Indian Rock, at depths to 70 feet. Lures and method remains constant, Apex lures tipped with scented shoe peg corn, Uncle Larry's fire tiger, pinky and copper pops with corn, pink /white hoochies all behind a small Sep's dodger (in rainbow, silver/blue or gold) have all been working well for the Trollers.
Best Trout trolling area recently has been the Sugar Bowl/Narrows; second best is the River Arm starting at the Mouth all the way to Twin Coves and beyond. Small lures, needlefish, wobblers, Sep's and Uncle Larry's fire tiger all tipped with corn or a bit of night crawler behind a dodger still the best combination. Some boaters have opted to tie off in those and other locations.
The bank fishing is the best right after the plant in and around the Recreation Area. The continuing cool water temperatures encourage planters to hold in the Rec. Area longer. Hot spots are the same-the EBMUD boathouse, Launch Ramp, TomSawyerIsland and Rainbow Point. Kastmasters continue to be super hot, silver/blue and silver/chartreuse ? oz size. The sliding sinker set up is best; the hottest bait is still garlic yellow and rainbow Power Bait with sparkles.
Recent success stories; Bonnie Robinson of Modesto got this nice 4.5 lb Rainbow at the Dam. James Chi of Elk Grove landed his Trout using a night crawler. Quan Nguyen from LA got this 4.70 lb Largemouth using a Hot Steel Rapala. Excellent job-well done-Congratulations to all!
Some catfish in the 2 to 6 lb. size have been caught in the coves at the southern end and in Mel's cove on the backside of the floating bathroom.
Lake level still remains full to capacity. Good visibility to 15 feet, water temperatures remain constant at 62 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 66 at the surface as recorded in the Marina.
