Weather and conditions ideal mid 80's forecast for this weekend and continuing into next week.
Lake level remains full to capacity and just stopped spilling this morning. Good visibility to 12 feet, water temperatures remain constant at 62 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 66 at the surface as recorded in the Marina.
Kokanee
Kok's have begun to exhibit color change and hooked jaws and many caught lately are smaller, in the 10 to 12" size. Trollers are having to work harder locating them and putting them in the box. Most continue to concentrate in and around the River Mouth and along the southern end of the Lake between the spillway buoy line and the eastern shoreline. Lures and method remains constant, Apex lures tipped with scented shoe peg corn, Uncle Larry's fire tiger, pinky and copper pops with corn, pink /white hoochies all behind a small Sep's dodger (in rainbow, silver/blue or gold) have all been working well for the Trollers. The Marina reports Trollers are now fishing for Trout and Kokanee at 30 to 50 foot depths.
Trout Best Trout trolling area recently has been the River Arm starting at the Mouth all the way to Twin Coves and beyond. Small lures, needlefish, wobblers, Sep's and Uncle Larry's fire tiger all tipped with corn or a bit of night crawler behind a dodger still the best combination. Some boaters have opted to tie off in the South End and Columbia Gulch and have been doing well bait fishing in those and other locations.
The bank fishing is the best right after the plant in and around the Recreation Area. The continuing cool water temperatures encourage planters to hold in the Rec. Area longer. Hot spots are the same-the EBMUD boathouse, Launch Ramp, TomSawyerIsland and Rainbow Point. Kastmasters continue to be super hot, silver/blue and silver/chartreuse ? oz size. The sliding sinker set up is best; the hottest bait is still yellow/garlic Power Bait with sparkles.
Recent success story; Debbie Shanahan got a gibundus monster German Brown top lining down the center of the Lake on 7/17/11. She was using a light rod and 6 lb. test line-Excellent job-well done-Congratulations!
Catfish
Some catfish in the 2 to 6 lb size have been caught in the coves at the southern end and in Mel's cove on the backside of the floating bathroom.
Make sure you stop by the Marina and get the latest scoop on what's working and where. All the hottest baits, lures, equipment and exaggerated fish stories are always available there!
