Excellent weather in store for Independence Day Holiday weekend visitors.
The Lake is full to capacity and continues to cascade over the spillway and on towards Comanche. Good visibility to 15 feet, water temperatures have remained stable at 56 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 61 at the surface as recorded in the Marina.
Trollers report that a few Kokanee have begun to exhibit signs of hooked jaws and scale loss. They are continuing to congregate in the River Mouth and along the southern end of the Lake between the spillway buoy line and the eastern shoreline. Apex lures tipped with scented shoe peg corn, Uncle Larry's fire tiger, pinky and copper pops with corn, pink /white hoochies all behind a small Sep's dodger (in rainbow, silver/blue or gold) have all been working well for the Trollers. The Marina reports Trollers are now fishing for Trout and Kokanee in 20 to 50 foot depths.
Sounds like the best Trout trolling areas have been just outside the Narrows and between the Dam and River Mouth. Some anglers have begun tying up in coves at the South end and bait fishing with good results. Small lures, needlefish, wobblers, Sep's and Uncle Larry's fire tiger all tipped with corn or a bit of night crawler behind a dodger still the best combination.
The bank was a little tough last week but should improve with the recent plant. The continuing cool water temperatures encourage planters to hold in the Rec. Area longer. Hot spots are the same-the EBMUD boathouse, Launch Ramp, Tom Sawyer Island and Rainbow Point. Kastmasters continue to be super hot, silver/blue and silver/chartreuse ? oz size. The sliding sinker set up is best; the hottest bait is still yellow/garlic Power Bait with sparkles.
Success story Clayton Daneri of Pine Grove pulled this nice stringer of Rainbows out of the South end using Power Bait, details are classified information! Congratulations to Clayton-well done!!!
Some catfish in the 2 to 6 lb. size have been caught in the coves at the southern end and in Mel's cove on the backside of the floating bathroom.
Make sure you stop by the Marina and get the latest scoop on what's working and where.
All the hottest baits, lures, equipment and exaggerated fish stories are always available there!
Pardee Lake Recreation has planted 59,800 lbs in combination with The California Dept of Fish and Game plants of 6,200 lb for a grand total of 66,000 lbs of Rainbow Trout.
Good Luck-Tight Lines!
