While our weather has been unsettled for the last week ??? we've had warm days, we've had windy days, and we've had a little rain too ??? the fishing has remained pretty darn good.?? Most folks that are fishing are catching. I like it that way?Ķ?? Here's the report.

The bass are still up in the shallow water. Tules and shallow docks are the name of the game. Soft plastics are back in favor over other artificials and jumbo minnows are producing good numbers for the live bait fishermen. The top two plastics??? A weightless Senko worm or a finesse worm on a drop shot.?? Rig your drop shot short and pitch it into the skinny water next to the bank.?? Make sure you've got plenty of worms on hand because you're likely to catch enough bass to run you clean out of ???em. Water temps this week are running around 62 degrees and there's a hint of an algae bloom in some parts of the lake. The water level is up due to recent rains.

There's good word about the crappie bite over in the Keys in Clearlake Oaks. I spoke with Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle yesterday and he said the bite in the keys is going strong. Other reports have a decent crappie bite happening down at the south end of the Redbud Arm by the new Clearlake Resort (formerly Fun Time) and around Indian Island. Anglers are having plenty of luck tempting the big specks with mini jigs and live minnows casting to docks in shallow water.

We're all getting a bit excited over the Catfish Derby coming up in a couple of weeks. The new Clearlake Oaks ??? Glenhaven Business Association web site is great!?? On it you'll find results from past derbies, a downloadable entry form, and other information about all things Derby. You can get there by going to www.ClearlakeOaks.org. ??As for the catfish bite, it is picking up with regular reports of cats being caught from shore and by boat all over the south end of the lake. Mackerel, nightcrawlers, live jumbo minnows, and clams are the tops for this week.

The last of the wind, cold, and rain are trailing out of our area as our weather warms into the coming weekend. The lake is returning to a much more fishable condition.?? Here's what we've heard?Ķ The bass bite is turning back around. The reports we're hearing are of the feast or famine nature ??? either an angler did very well or didn't catch a thing. Among the anglers catching fish, key presentations were soft plastics, nightcrawlers and minnows fished in...... Read More

Cold and wind have continued to plague anglers this week. This is the kind of weather that makes you just want to stay indoors. ??The result, this week, is a much abbreviated report?Ķ The isolated reports from bass fisherman have them moving back to finesse presentations. The bass have moved back to staging areas in deeper water that's 10 to 15 feet deep. Soft plastics have taken the top spot this past week as anglers lighten up and slow down to...... Read More
