Water Conditions

There has been a slight increase in flows on the Little Truckee River between Boca and Stampede, currently reaching 51 CFS. Despite this increase, water levels in the upper river are still somewhat low. With the likelihood of more precipitation this fall and additional water being released from the dam, we can expect the flows at this fishery to improve over the next few weeks.

Tips for the Week

For anglers planning to fish the Little Truckee River right now, both nymphing and dry fly fishing are effective techniques. Those using dry flies should use 6X, 10-foot leaders. Currently, the hatches to match include pale morning duns, blue-winged olives, small and large caddis, and midges. For those nymphing, it's recommended to try the lower river or near the inlet, especially in the higher water levels. Nymphing in the lower sections of the river can be particularly productive for catching fish.

Suggested Flies

A few fly favorites to try on the Little Truckee River this week are a size 18 Comparadun, Griffins Gnat, Sprouted Midge, Elk Hair Caddis, size 18 PT Nymph, Zebra Midge, or a Tiny Parachute Adams.
