Water Conditions

The Little Truckee River is currently flowing at 64 CFS out of the bottom of stampede reservoir. There are currently a good amount of anglers fishing the top section below the dam. Be mindful not to overcrowd this fishery. If the dam is too packed, try fishing closer to the Boca reservoir. The upcoming cooler weather should help the hatches out in the next month and anglers should notice an increase in fish rising for their food. Some of the best fishing of the year on the LIttle Truckee River is just around the corner!

Tips for the Week

With the current flows, dry fly fishing on the Little Truckee River is the best technique to use. There are some smaller, technical hatches of blue-winged olives and midges occurring right now. Nymphing here can be possible with very small midges and mayflies ranging from size 18 to 22, but it is difficult in some sections. Anglers are still recommended to use a 10-foot or longer leader to help fool these very picky trout.

Suggested Flies

Some fly favorites to try on the Little Truckee River this week are Rainbow Warriors, RS2 fly, JuJu Baetis, Mole Flies, or Zebra Midges Size 22.
