Sacramento River fishing update July 13, 2021
As we count down the last remaining days of this years salmon closure we are prepared to to see what the Sacramento River has to offer this Friday!
That’s right, time has finally run out for this seasons re opening of the Sacramento River salmon fishing. The Sacramento river is poised to open this Friday July 16th. Sardine wrapped “old style” kwikfish will be ready to be deployed to the bottom of the Sacramento Rivers best salmon runs below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam precisely one hour before sunrise…4:53am to be exact.
You can guarantee many anxious anglers will arrive days before the opener scouting the Sacramento rivers many different salmon holes in search of fresh migrating king salmon.
This run of salmon begins in mid July and will build…peak…and wind down through mid to late October. Water conditions will be challenging to say the least and salmon fishing pressure should be high.
Low river flows will ultimately expose many in river obstructions like submerged trees and shallow gravel/sand bars. Sacramento River salmon fishing guide Dave Jacobs explains, “ I would exercise extreme concentration on the low flows of the Sacramento River this Fall…expert boat operations will be imperative to avoid costly accidents when the Sacramento River flows drop to 3,200 CFS.”
Jacob’s has been sharing with many for a couple of months now…”the commercial and sport fishing fleet from Santa Cruz to the Golden Gate have been reporting great daily catches of large…very large…California king salmon.”
Undoubtedly these are king salmon preparing to return to the Central Valley river system..the mighty Sacramento River and all of its tributaries.
Dave Jacobs has been fortunate enough to have been salmon fishing for more than a month now readying our very best “old style” kwikfish…all fine tuned and proven king salmon catchers over the last month. These old kwikfish may be tarnished, bloodied and scratched up by massive king salmon bites on the world famous Kenai peninsulas rivers this past month… I assure you…these kwikfish are ready for whatever the Sacramento River has to offer us this week and the coming months.
Reports of large 40 plus pound king salmon has been rampant in the last two weeks out of the Golden Gate and I have been preparing our gear with new line and heavy 40 pound leaders a must.
Opening day on the Sacramento River is here…join us on California’s home to its king salmon state record…a huge 88 pound king salmon…caught in the very same river with the same salmon fishing techniques we use today. Come experience the great salmon catching experience on the Sacramento River with Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service…”we have been perfecting Sacramento River salmon fishing since 1985!”
