The rain and winds of last week have given way to blue skies and warmer conditions this week and are forecast to last at least through Sunday afternoon. Water temperatures warmed a little at the Marina to 54 degrees at surface and 48 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The Lake cleared a bit and visibility is now 10 to 12 feet with no debris visible. Lake level looks to be at least 15 feet below spill and in a holding pattern, watch for pencil buoys.
BANK FISHING ---- Fishing continues to be good from the shore; the planters don't seem to be in any hurry to leave the Recreation Area so folks continue to do very well. The hot spots are the Launch Ramp, Rainbow Point, Tom Sawyer Island and the point directly across from the east end of the Marina. Sliding sinker set ups are the most successful but some good fish were taken on silver/blue Kastmasters. White power eggs and power worms are the hot ticket this week according to the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.
TROLLERS----Everyone must be upriver, not a single boat visible when I crossed the Dam this morning although the parking lot full of empty boat trailers. The best spots continue to be the Narrows, the face of the Dam, the River mouth and upstream. The first of the German Browns that are caught early in the season was caught late last week. Down riggers, lead core or drifting with small lures with a scented night crawler in 5 to 15 feet of water has been the rule.
RECENT SUCCESS STRORIES---Rich Bernoudy of Garden Valley got this beautiful 7.3 lb German Brown trolling near Dear Island. Kevin and Brian Caldwin of Lodi both got their limits working Rainbow Point using power bait. Good Job-Congratulations to all!
To date 21,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with more plants scheduled in the near future.
