Water Conditions: The Pit is now open year round. Reports from Pit 3, 4, and 5 show all three stretches to be high, slightly off color, but fishing decent. They don't look great, but anglers have been catching some nice fish anyway.
Fishing Conditions & Hatches: Most of the best fishing lately has been towards the middle of the day, and all nymphing with big stoneflies, copper johns, and prince nymphs.
Flies: GB Black A.P #12-18 * GB Prince nymph #14-16* Golden stone nymph #10-14 * Zebra Midges #16-20 * Hare's Ear #14-18 * Dark Lord #14-16 * Elk Hair Caddis #12-16 * Stimulators #8-12 * Black Rubberlegs #6-8 * Shafer's 3D Nymphs #10 * Poxyback Micro Stone, Dark #12 * Fox's Poopah * Beeottis * Glasstail Caddis Pupa Olive #14.
The Fly Shop's Tips: Be ready for tough wading conditions when fishing this river. Flat ground DOES NOT exist here! A wading staff is highly recommended.... almost mandatory. Many bones (wrist, arm, ankle, leg) and fly rods (Sage, Loomis, Scott, etc..) have been broken here. Move slow, and keep solid footing while in the water. (But just in cast...pack some dry clothes, snake kit and don't forget to dry out your fly-box at the end of the day!)
