Harrison Ibach from Mad River Outfitters in Arcata has mixed feelings about the stormy weather conditions in far northern California. "It is bad news in the short term, but good news in the long term," Harrison says of the back-to-back storm systems forecast for this week and next. "Most of the coastal rivers will be blown out for the next week or so, but we are getting some good flows going and will see new fish in the rivers." Despite the recent rains the Upper Trinity is still very fishable, according to Ibach, and anglers are having "some really big days" catching fresh steelhead with flies, nightcrawlers, spinners and drifting roe.
