Steelhead season opened on our local streams December 1. Because we have had so little rain, none of the streams is truly fishable yet, though the San Lorenzo Rivermouth area is reported to hold some staging steelhead, according to Mark Dingler. He suggests using small shiny lures such as Kastmasters and Krocodiles for these fish, or drifting bait beneath a popping float in the Estuary. Dingler reminds us that fishing locally for steelhead is only allowed on Wednesdays, weekends and holidays.
