General Information: The river is now open from Lake Britton down to Lake Shasta year round.
Good. Not many anglers test the Pit's waters in the fall, but most recent reports from Pit 3, 4, and 5 have been good.
Fishing Conditions & Hatches: High stick nymphing can be very productive here. With the warm water conditions the best fishing can be found by skipping over the slower runs and concentrate on the riffles and areas with tributaries coming into the river. The Isonychia hatches by crawling to the banks and climbing out to emerge which makes the nymph the stage to fish most effectively
Flies:
?Ģ LaFontaine's Caddis #14-16
?Ģ Olive Fox's Poopah #14-16
?Ģ Mercer's Z-Wing #14-16
?Ģ GB Black A.P #12-18
?Ģ GB Prince nymph #14-16
?Ģ Dark Lord #14-16
?Ģ Elk Hair Caddis #12-16
?Ģ Stimulators #8-12
?Ģ Black Rubberlegs #6-8
?Ģ Shafer's 3D Nymphs #10
?Ģ Poxyback Micro Stone
?Ģ Mercer's Poxyback Isonychia #12
The Fly Shop's Tips: ??Be ready for tough wading conditions when fishing this river. Flat ground DOES NOT exist here! A wading staff is highly recommended.... almost mandatory. Many bones (wrist, arm, ankle, leg) and fly rods (Sage, Loomis, Scott, etc..) have been broken here. Move slow, and keep solid footing while in the water. (But just in cast...pack some dry clothes, snake kit and don't forget to dry out your fly-box at the end of the day!)
