Del Valle trout bite very good
New Melones Reservoir - Angels Camp, CA

We are still having cool mornings followed by afternoon heat in the 70's. The trout stayed on the bite this week even though the water temp is up to almost 60 degrees in some places. Most fish are eating artificial lures like crank baits, jerk baits, rubber worms, and Kastmasters. Trout seem to be moving out of the south end and up into the narrows. You can still catch them in the south and on East or West beach but the number of fish being caught down there are dwindling. Lots of BIG rainbows are coming out of Heron Bay and Swallow Bay now. Probably because there is deeper colder water in the bays and narrows. Catfish made an appearance this week, we are starting to see them and catch them on the big rocky points of the coves. Some of the cats have been swimming around under the docks and boat launch area. Striped bass fed well this week due to the first DFG trout plant since November. The staff and I have been watching the stripers blow up on those tasty little snacks they love so much. Bass are in full spawn, laying on and protecting their beds now instead of just being near them. The bass became harder to catch as their priority switches from food to making baby bass. It is CRITICAL that this time of year ALL BASS get released. (925) 449-5201
