Almanor Lake Fish Report

Lake Almanor - CA (Plumas County)

Lake levels are low, but holding. Clarity is 9.5 fet. The Hamilton Branch, and North fork of the Feather River are bringing in clear water, but it's the springs flows that are keeping levels stable.

Canyon Dam ramps is where most boats are launching. Most boats start trolling from Canyon Dam north along the east shore and into Lake Cove because that's where bait fish are holding. We also saw good bait and marks from Rocky Point to the Fox Farm. Trout are feeding on smelt these days and white trolling flies and other smelt patterns have been effective. Ripping lead core, or down rigging Arctic Fox white trolling flies tipped with a wiggle fin action disk are also getting hits. If trolling, don’t go to deep around the Fox Farm area, it’s a good place to loose tackle. The bottom comes up quickly in spots.

There's a bunch of big rainbows laying in those shallow water springs that flow in Big Springs. Guys from shore are working salmon eggs back off the bottom, while guys on boats are doing the same. Because it’s shallow, fish are easily spooked. Doug Neal: (530) 258-6732 http://www.almanorfishingadventures.com
