Salmon fishing on the Sacramento river from Anderson Balls Ferry downstream near Chico has been spotty at best with some days better salmon scores than others. Most reports from Anderson Balls Ferry downstream towards Chico, Ca. have been one to three salmon with quite a few angler's reporting zero to one salmon per boat. Many salmon are older and darker compared to earlier in the season but the newer fresher salmon are in great shape and scattered throughout the system. Back bouncing sardine wrapped kwikfish lures in the morning and switching over to roe and a quickie puff ball in the mid morning and afternoon have been the best bets . Salmon have been averaging 18 to 26lbs with larger fish weighing in at 30 to 40lbs. Current releases to the Sacramento River have dropped to 6,500 cfs with level's dropping to 6,000 cfs on Thursday. Fall salmon fishing will continue through October and will change over to the late fall run in November and early December.
