Trout fishing on the Sacramento river near Redding was very good this past week for wild rainbow trout with many large bows' to 4lbs being caught. Multiple hook-ups were common with many double, even triple hook-ups side drifting glo bugs. Current releases from Keswick into the Sacramento River have risen to 15,000cfs. Side drifting small hand tied glo-bugs in various egg color patterns proved best early in the mornings. Bob and son Tyler Cademartori from Linden, Ca. scored 60 plus rainbows on a two day outing with guide Dave Jacobs of Professional guide service on June 28th and 29th near Redding. Natural cured roe tipped with a Quickie puffball also scored some great fishing for wild bows'. Most trout averaged 1 to 3 pounds with the occasional large bow 4 to 5 pounds. 25 hook-ups are average with better scores of 40 plus hook-ups possible on good days. Redding to Red Bluff has been most productive water. Angler's back trolling small Hot shot #50's in various color combos has also been a good bet. Shad fishing has really improved in the upper reaches of the Sacramento river from Red Bluff to Chico. Angler's drifting jigs have scored 20 to 30 hook-ups on shad averaging 1 to 3 pounds. Side drifting small 1/16 to 1/32 ounce jigs with small one inch curly tailed grubs have been best. Shad fishing will continue to build now thru early July up river towards Red Bluff, Ca.
