The Bass were everywhere and "locked" on their beds at Santa Margarita -- Great Fishing
Santa Margarita Lake - CA (San Luis Obispo County)

4-24-2012
Weather:
Sunny clear sky with wind up to 5 mph.
Water Temperature:
71 Degrees
Water Clarity:
Clear up to 10' visibility.
Fish Boated:
(1) 4 lbs 6 oz; Largemouth, darter head
(1) 4 lbs 1 oz; Largemouth, darter head
(1) 3 lbs 15 oz; Largemouth, darter head
(10+) 3 lbs 0 oz; Largemouth, darter head, tube, creature baits
Fishing Conditions:
Fish were crawling everywhere in the shallows and locked on beds. Targeted the shallows of coves and main lake cuts as well as the flats near White Oak launch ramp. The clear water and calm winds allowed for prime sight fishing conditions. Almost every bed observed was occupied by a bass, even spotted some giant catfish spawning as well.
When fishing a "locked" bedded bass, keep adequate distance, if the bait your fishing isn't getting a reaction, try something else. With each cast on the bed, the bass gets that much more frustrated, being just a matter of time before the strike. Baits that are white in color are more easily seen and sometimes vital when detecting the bite.
