TROUT: Anglers trolling for trout continue to have good success at Lake Camanche, when they are able to get their baits down 35-40 feet deep. 2 gentlemen from Lodi reported in at North Shore, and caught 2 limits of trout up to 3 ?? pounds. They were trolling with a Z-Ray lure, in Fire Tiger color, and their fish were caught about 35 feet deep. They were trolling from Hat Island to the dam, and across the face of the dam. Dike 3 continues to produce lots and lots of nice trout, and lots and lots of limits. Rich and Maureen Drawbert, and their Uncle Evo, caught 15 trout, up to 3 pounds, while they were bait fishing on Saturday. They anchored in 35-40 feet of water, and caught all of their fish on Power Bait. The same 2 marina regulars who fish Dike 3 every Thursday, had great success again this last Thursday. They started fishing at 7:30 a.m., and had 2 limits of trout in the boat at 11:20 a.m. The big trout weighed 5.5 pounds, and they had a 3 ?? pounder and a 3 pounder also. They were anchored in 45 feet of water, and caught most of their fish on Power Eggs, as well as Power Bait.
Martin Morales Sr. and Martin Morales Jr., from Lodi, also had a great day bait fishing at the dam on Saturday. They caught 2 limits of trout, with one at 5.5 pounds, while fishing with Power Bait and nightcrawler combinations. They were anchored in about 40 feet of water, and were fishing right off the bottom.
Great trout are still being caught at the South Shore Pond. Steve Coopersmith, from Rocklin, weighed in a beautiful 5.66 pound rainbow this week. He was fishing from shore at the Pond, with Power Bait.
BASS: Bass anglers report that lots of bass are still being caught in the main lake on top of submerged island tops. 2 men from West Sacramento reported catching and releasing over 20 bass, using top water plugs at first light in the Camanche Arm area; then switched to Baby Brush Hogs in green pumpkin, and Cinnamon Senko worms on island tops later in the morning. They caught largemouth bass up to 3 ?? pounds, and spotted bass up to 3 pounds. They said the island tops near Dikes 1 and 2 were the most productive.
One marina regular reported catching spots and largemouths on the rocky points of Horse Island, The Narrows, and the rocky points in China Gulch. All of his fish came in less than 15 feet of water, and he was dragging Senkos, Camanche Jack's worms in purple, and swim baits in a crappie pattern. He fished early in the day until noon, and caught and released around 12 fish.
CATFISH: We continue to get reports of nice catfish being caught by campers and day use anglers. One group of campers at North Shore caught 3 fine catfish, up to 7 pounds, while fishing below their campsite in Blue Oaks Campground. They were using mackerel, and chicken liver, and caught 2 fish in the evening and one at night.
Another angler reported catching several catfish while fishing the rocky areas around Horse Island. He was anchored in 17 feet of water, and caught all his fish on mackerel. His big fish was 4 pounds, with a couple more at 2-3 pounds.
We encourage all anglers to report their stories, comments, or concerns to either North Shore Store, South Shore Store, or to us by email at eporray@camancherecreation.com. Thanks again for choosing Lake Camanche for your recreation destination.
