Water is STILL roaring over the spillway. The Lake is full to the brim with water levels right at the tree line. A little debris in the water upriver this week but visibility has remained the same. Good visibility to 13 feet with water temperatures unchanged, 52 degrees at 20 feet and 57 at surface in the Marina.
Lots of boats here this morning pre fishing the Lake for tomorrow's derby. Word is that the Kokanee have begun moving out into the Lake proper this week. I saw anglers working the southern section along the eastern banks and between the spillway and the face of the Dam trying to dial in the depths and equipment.
Fishing in general slowed down a little last week, but the equipment and lures that was working then should continue to produce. Apex lures tipped with scented shoe peg corn, Uncle Larry's fire tiger, pinky and copper pops with corn behind a small Sep's dodger. One 15 inch Koke reported recently, while lots of 14 inchers continue to show up on a regular basis. Trout are also active in the same region but a bit deeper at 20 feet and they prefer Uncle Larry's lures with worms and or corn. German Browns also continue to show up in the River Mouth near the Rock Wall. Mid-size broken back fire tiger and trout minnow Rapalas and the Hot Steel Rapala alone or behind a silver/green dodger at 10 to 20 feet have been getting it done! Bass fishing has also been good lately along submerged structure and rocky outcroppings near the Dam and Spillway; swim baits have been very effective.
The Marina reports bank anglers continue to do well during the week. Planters continue to hold in the Recreation area so anglers are doing well longer. Hot spots are the same-the EBMUD boathouse, Launch Ramp, Tom Sawyer Island, the banks on either side of the Marina gangway and Rainbow Point. Kastmasters continue to be super hot, silver/blue and silver/chartreuse ? oz size. The sliding sinker set up is best with white power eggs, chartreuse garlic flavored Power Bait with sparkles and dark green PowerBait.
Up coming events; this Saturday May 14, 2011 Project Kokanee will host the 19th Annual Mike Carrington Memorial Family Fun Fishing Derby here at PardeeLake. Good Food, Raffles, Prizes, in Junior and Regular Divisions. Check the website for further information and entry forms. Kokanee Tournament Link
