Los Vaqueros Fishing Report
Los Vaqueros Reservoir - Livermore, CA (Contra Costa County)

by Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz

Ted Cribari, Al Hurwitz, and Al’s son, Gregg Hurwitz, joined up to troll Los Vaqueros Reservoir on 3/20/25, looking mainly for Rainbow Trout. We were rewarded with perfect weather and outstanding fishing! Pictured here are Ted (blue vest) with a nice 1.5-2.0 pound Mt. Lassen Rainbow Trout, and Gregg (pink top) with a beautiful 5.2 pound Lassen.
We caught a total of 12 Mt. Lassen Trout, 7 in Howden Cove and 5 (including the 5.2 pounder) in East Cove. We were flatlining jointed Rapalas with scent applied in shallow water some 8 feet below the surface. We had strikes (about 15 altogether) about every 20 minutes! All but two fish were released. The water clarity was excellent, with a surface temperature around 55.5 degrees.
A great day in all respects! As always, we compliment the staff for their outstanding courtesy and help.
See you soon,
Ted Cribari, Los Gatos
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
Gregg Hurwitz, Calabasas

Heron Bay, however, did have clearer albeit stained water, allowing trolling to proceed. We had a number of fish “hits” on the sonar unit in Heron Bay, but...... Read More
